The 5000 Role Models of Excellence
This innovative program exists to help boost the self-image, social skills and academic performance of selected males, in part, by motivating them to interact with respected and successful men and women. This program matches young men with mentors to offer guidance, academic support, and positive social reinforcement. Mentors meet with students on a regular basis to foster positive male and female relationships. Statistics show that boys who have mentors are:
- 52% less likely to skip school.
- 46% less likely to start using drugs.
- 33% less likely to be physically aggressive.
This program is a vital part of many schools throughout the county. Mentors work closely with the schools to assist role model students in their efforts established and achieved desired goals. Academic success appears to be a direct result of students who have changed their negative behaviors into positive actions. Our goal is to instill in the youth, the values of mainstream America, while respecting the existing values of the individual. This program focuses on the major assumptions that there are positive and successful men in our communities to emulate and there are positive alternatives to self-destructive behaviors. The 5000 Role Models Of Excellence was founded in 1993 by senator Frederica Wilson now congress woman Wilson. We work to make her vision a reality.
